Discover how they’re at the forefront of the UK prop-tech industry, some of the coolest workplace solutions they’ve come across, and what really makes a space smart.
Hint: it doesn’t all come down to technology.
Gaby Fraser, Operations Manager at Switched on Space
- Tell us about a recent project you’ve managed at Switched on Space
We’ve installed Density occupancy monitors for a large enterprise client across 3 continents in the past few months. The project has involved many moving parts but seeing the sensors installed and generating live data and analytics has been really rewarding.
The customer is already seeing the benefit of understanding how their space is being utilised and the data is helping them shape the future of their property portfolio.
- What do you think the biggest challenge is when it comes to people adopting prop-tech?
Initially it’s tough for people to see the ROI of introducing prop-tech into their buildings. Educating customers on the benefits – both short and long term – is key as some tech can be expensive and there is a reluctance to invest.
- What are some of the most exciting changes you see in the sector?
With hybrid working becoming common place, creating space that employees want to be in is vital. I’m most excited about the shift from the traditional office layouts to creating spaces that are multi-functional and can adapt to the needs of people. The modern office must be redesigned with people in mind.
- What’s the coolest smart solution for property you’ve seen recently?
When it comes to smart solutions, smart architecture really gets me excited. ROOM are helping reshape the workplace. There is a shift in how the workplace is being used and ROOM are at the forefront of creating an experience that is better than the one people have at home. Not only do they build insanely cool phone booths, meeting rooms and focus rooms, but they get space, and know how to design spaces allowing people to connect, collaborate and create.
- For you, what makes a smart space?
A space where people can perform at their best: allowing productivity, comfort and flexibility.
